Overview:In order to be considered for a Co-op position, the candidate must be a current student enrolled in a bachelors or master’s program and must be able to work approximately 40 hours per week from January-May or from January-June.
About the Job
We are looking for a highly motivated and talented co-op student to help monitor, operate, and improve some of the core infrastructure systems supporting Akamai’s global network. In this position, you will measure, troubleshoot, and improve performance of highly distributed systems. You will also develop tools and processes to collect, visualize, and analyze performance-related data.
About the Team
Akamai’s Systems Communications (SysComm) is a talented cross-functional group of engineers that builds and runs the fault-tolerant and highly scalable infrastructure that supports Akamai's global network. This distributed infrastructure includes configuration management systems, networks security systems, and monitoring systems for all Akamai's machines running across the world.
Responsibilities:
* Define appropriate metrics for tracking performance and carefully tune highly distributed systems
* Troubleshoot complex network performance and availability issues in real-time
* Brainstorm, implement, and document better ways to streamline our processes in response to incidents
* Manage the rollout and activation of platform modifications and enhancements
* Write scripts to monitor and automate processes
* Coordinate diagnosis and resolution of issues with engineering and operations teams
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
* Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or other related technical discipline.
* Programming experience in a high-level language, such as Perl, Python, Java, etc.
Desired Qualifications
* Excellent communication skills
* Attention to detail and excellent problem solving/troubleshooting skills
* Basic working knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, HTTP, and SSL protocols
* Exposure to system monitoring for performance analysis
* Working knowledge of databases, SQL syntax and usage
