About the Job
Take ownership of the world's largest distributed data processing system and work at the heart of the Internet. Help Akamai design and maintain their high-performance, distributed data collection system.
About the Team
The Distributed Data Collection team (DDC) owns and operates the network that processes, aggregates and stores every Akamai network transaction for the purposes of billing, reporting, decision support and provisioning. DDC currently receives over 2PB/day of data and maintains a data store that processes 3 trillion records per day. The engineering group within DDC has end-to-end responsibility for the design, development and deployment of the applications and systems that enable one of the worlds largest data processing and big data systems.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities
* Create new features and enhance existing features in Perl, C and C++ for DDC's massively distributed system.
* Work on projects that make our network more scalable, faster, and more secure.
* Maintain global network safety and massive dataset integrity.
* Drive development from conception and design through testing and deployment.
* Create tests for immediate team members and QA teams to demonstrate proper operation to meet both internal and external customer expectations for reliability and performance.
* Work with our support teams to troubleshoot complex problems on our network.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or similar technical discipline.
* Minimum of 5 years professional experience.
* Minimum of 5 years experience with Linux and distributed systems.
* Minimum of 3 years experience with common network protocols such as TCP/IP, SSH and SSL protocols.
Desired Qualifications
* Masters or PhD Degree in Computer Science preferred.
* Experience with RDBMS, e.g. Postresql, MySQL, Oracle, etc.
* Experience with API's, e.g. POSIX, RPC, Web/HTTP/REST.
* Experience with Big Data systems such as Hadoop, Big Table, MegaStore, etc.
* Experience with principles of software development and design.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
