Overview:In order to be considered for a Co-op position, the candidate must be a current student enrolled in a bachelors or master’s program and must be able to work approximately 40 hours per week from January-May or from January-June.



About the Job
Akamai's System Communications is looking for a talented and highly motivated co-op student to join our Dev Q/A engineering team. In this position, you will work very closely with the development team to perform tight cycle feature testing during early stages of software development. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual who relentlessly look for defects and areas of improvements in our components. If you want to work on technology problems that are interesting and challenging, then this is the role for you.

About the Team
Akamai’s Systems Communications (SysComm) is a talented cross-functional group of engineers that builds and runs the fault-tolerant and highly scalable infrastructure that supports Akamai's global network. This distributed infrastructure includes configuration management systems, networks security systems, and monitoring systems for all Akamai's machines running across the world.

Responsibilities:

* Support and maintain testing infrastructure (testnet)
* Administrate releases
* Become an expert user of several internal highly-distributed systems
* Execute automated regressions tests
* Design and develop targeted tests for cutting-edge features
* Validate software functionalities against applicable requirements

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications
* Currently pursing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or other technical discipline.
* Programming experience in a high-level language, such as, C/C++, Java, etc.
* Familiar with Linux/Unix administration.

Desired Qualifications
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to operate in an ever-changing and ad-hoc environment
* Passion for testing
* Ability working closely with developers to design test criteria and develop test plans
* Strong attention to detail and excellent problem solving/troubleshooting skills
* Experience with networking protocols, including TCP, HTTP, SSL
* Familiarity with SQL, Perl, Python, Shell and/or Java
