Overview:We are looking for a technical writer to develop technical documentation in support of the Akamai Engineering organization. You will be engaged in key projects and initiatives to improve new hire onboarding, organizational communication, and information access. In this position, you will support senior writers and instructional designers in all phases of content and course development. Assignments will include all or some of the following:
* Learn all authoring tools, processes and procedures for the Engineering Learning department.
* Interview subject matter experts and write articles for monthly Engineering technical bulletin / newsletter.
* Videotape, catalog, and index engineering talks and whiteboard sessions.
* Write procedural information in support of staff projects and included in technical documents used by the engineering population.
* Provide testing support for courses and technical documents developed by the Engineering Learning team.
* Other duties as assigned.
We are looking for a technical writer to create technical documentation about proprietary Akamai systems and online APIs. This position focuses on Akamai's Infrastructure Services, and the intended audience is the Akamai development community.
Responsibilities:
* Assess documentation needs based on product goals, usage, and reader needs.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Product Management, Service and Support, Operations, and Quality Assurance) to plan projects, anticipate documentation needs, solve problems, scope deliverables, determine delivery mechanisms, and communicate progress.
* Produce high-quality documentation that is clear, organized, and appropriate for the target audience.
* Maintain, improve, and augment existing documentation.
Qualifications:
* Must be pursuing a Bachelors or Master’s degree.
* Demonstrated coursework and/or experience in technical communication, journalism, or business writing areas.
* Demonstrated understanding of the technical documentation development cycle.
* Demonstrated experience with modern user assistance principles and best practices, user research methodologies, Web 2.0 and Mobile industry standards and trends.
* Demonstrated knowledge of content delivery networks and an understanding of network protocols and the Internet.
* Comfortable working across departments within the Engineering organization.
* Enjoy delving into new technologies in a highly engineering-centric culture.
