Overview:We are seeking a talented and highly motivated student to join our team. You will be responsible for the Linux kernel, the foundation of the Akamai software stack. Our kernel engineers develop and enhance the Linux kernel components that are critical to the Akamai business. You will work on our most challenging problems. You will collaborate with internal Akamai teams and the Open Source community to improve the Linux Kernel. Your software will enable key Akamai products and will affect people all over the world. Kernel engineers create new kernel features from scratch and enhance existing kernel features for our massively distributed network. You will work on projects that make our network more scalable, faster, and secure. You will drive development from conception to design, and implementation to testing.
Responsibilities:
* Extend and customize the Linux kernel to meet Akamai needs.
* Improve the performance of the Linux kernel and modules in the areas of synchronization and concurrency.
* Work with the open source community as needed.
Qualifications:
* Currently pursuing a graduate degree in computer science/engineering or related field and returning to the program after completion of the internship.
* Strong understanding of synchronization and concurrency concepts.
* Programming experience in C.
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
