About the Job
We are looking for a talented Senior Service Reliability Engineer to monitor, safely operate, and improve some of the core infrastructure systems supporting Akamai’s global network. In this position, you will define and drive projects to measure and improve performance of highly distributed systems, and develop tools and processes to collect and analyze performance-related data.
About the Team
Akamai’s Systems Communications (SysComm) is a talented cross-functional group of engineers that builds and runs the fault-tolerant and highly scalable infrastructure that supports Akamai's global network. This distributed infrastructure includes configuration management systems, networks security systems, and monitoring systems for all Akamai's machines running across the world.
Responsibilities:
* Define appropriate metrics for tracking performance and carefully tune highly distributed systems
* Troubleshoot complex network performance and availability issues in real-time
* Brainstorm, implement, and document better ways to streamline our processes in response to incidents
* Manage the rollout and activation of platform modifications and enhancements
* Write scripts to monitor and automate processes
* Coordinate diagnosis and resolution of issues with engineering and operations teams
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in engineering, math, science or equivalent experience
* Minimum of 5 years experience with Linux/Unix environment
* Minimum of 5 years experience with computer networking
Desired Qualifications
* Masters or Ph.D. in engineering, math or science.
* Excellent communication skills
* Strong attention to detail and excellent problem solving/troubleshooting skills
* Good organizational and personal project management skills
* Experience working with TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, HTTP, and SSL protocols
* Experience monitoring systems and applications for performance
* Experience analyzing and optimizing complex distributed systems
* Experience with programming or scripting in any language
* Strong working knowledge of databases, SQL syntax and usage
