About the Job
We need an experienced technical leader to create designs, implement systems and build products that enable innovation for customers of our Web Experience Business Unit. We’re looking for a Senior Systems Software Engineer who will help put Akamai on another level of performance and scale.
We currently receive about 2 trillion daily requests and recently surpassed handling over 20 terabits of data per second, five times what we did just a few years ago. This team will help us duplicate - then surpass - those unprecedented leaps in performance and delivery.
We have massive, complex systems that help us handle this volume of global user requests. This team will be extending an application framework that can meet the surging demand for data, applications and content that encompass up to one-third of all the traffic on the web. Given that scale, every person who connects to the Internet will be using your code.
About the Team
The Web Experience Engineering team has responsibility for the technologies that power our Aqua Web Solutions, including Ion and Ion Mobile, all of which improve the speed, reliability, and security of web sites running on the Internet. Akamai’s Aqua Web Solutions enable our customers to grow revenue opportunities with fast, personalized web experiences. And we can help customers manage complexity from peak demand, mobile devices, and data collection. By leveraging Akamai's globally distributed Intelligent Platform, we can provide unique technology solutions that power the increasingly complex web experiences that our customers desire.
Responsibilities:
* Design and implement new cloud applications running on the Akamai Intelligent Platform.
* Develop tools that assist in the design, authoring, and validation of new cloud applications.
* Be involved in all phases of the software lifecycle, from prototyping, to design, implementation and testing, and through rollout to general availability for customers.
* Help influence and work collaboratively with people at all levels and within various teams across the company.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or relevant engineering field.
* Minimum 6 years experience.
* Minimum 4 years of experience with Distributed Computing or Large Scale Systems.
* Minimum 4 years of experience with markup languages such as XML, HTML.
* Minimum 4 years of experience with scripting languages such as Perl or Python.
* Minimum 2 years of high-performance C/C++/Java development on Linux/UNIX.
* Minimum 2 years of experience with Internet protocols including HTTP, TCP/IP and UDP/IP.
Desired Qualifications
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* A strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
* Experience with web application frameworks such as J2EE, .NET, C#, JSP, ASP, Tomcat, Apache.
* Experience in the Content Delivery Networks, Web Architecture, Applications testing / optimization.
* ERP: Cloudlets.
