About the Job
You will work closely with the other members of the Custom Government Engineering, Operations, and Professional Services groups to deploy and support the latest technologies in live and on-demand streaming. As one of the front-line Streaming engineers you are the point of escalation for the hybrid Windows/Linux streaming server platform and must ensure that the service is operated in a scalable, secure manner that meets our customers media delivery needs.
About the Team
The Custom Government Engineering team works with breadth and depth across Akamai’s technology stack to deliver custom solutions for our Public Sector customers. The team has a strong relationship with our Operations team; working in a collaborative fashion, we strive to build and operate world-class Application Delivery Networks for our customers.
Responsibilities:
* Adapt and integrate Akamai Streaming technology to operate in the Public Sector environment.
* Manage and understand the many dynamic configuration files and customer configurations.
* Develop procedures to help diagnose or mitigate service problems.
* Act as a technical resource to assist in customer escalations.
* Work with other internal development teams to solve platform problems and design fixes.
* Maintain, enhance, and develop tools and testing frameworks.
* Benchmark various server metrics across releases and hardware to ensure performance.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, relevant engineering field, or equivalent experience.
* 2+ years experience in the field of software or systems engineering.
* 2+ years of experience in one or more scripting languages (shell, Perl, Python, etc.).
* 2+ years of hands-on experience working in Unix/Linux.
* US Citizenship required.
Desired Qualifications
* Prior experience in a distributed computing environment.
* Experience working with media streaming technologies a plus: Flash/RTMP/HDS, HLS/HTTP Streaming.
* Exposure to network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, etc.).
* Flexibility to adapt and operationalize software from various sources.
* Passion to understand, learn, and dissect new technologies quickly on your own.
* Extensive experience working on multiple projects at a time in a fast-paced, results oriented environment.
* Meticulous attention to detail and excellent debugging / troubleshooting skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Active, in-scope SSBI clearance preferred.
