About the Job
The Akamai Labs team is looking for a systems architect with the talent and experience to drive technology innovation, software design, and development within Akamai’s Emerging Products division. The Principal Architect will have significant technical responsibility for getting some of Akamai’s newest ideas into production including some of our most cutting edge inventions in Internet security.
About the Team
The Akamai Labs team is responsible for developing new and innovative technical ideas that extend Akamai’s technical and product portfolio. Located within Akamai’s Emerging Products division, the Akamai Labs team focuses on innovation, creation, and evangelism of next-stage technologies. This exciting and fast-paced team offers the opportunity to work hands-on with technology concepts throughout their lifecycle at Akamai. The Akamai Labs team offers a fun and dynamic work environment coupled with incredibly compelling technical work.
Responsibilities:
* Work closely with a small team including researchers and software engineers on designing systems for cutting-edge innovations, including some of our latest inventions in Internet security.
* Contribute to establishing system requirements – hardware, software, security, performance, operational, etc.
* Design high-availability, high-performance systems that run on one of the most distributed computing systems in the world.
* Provide technical leadership and advocate best practices to the team.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
* Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
* Minimum 10 years experience with software or systems engineering.
* Minimum 5 years experience with systems architecture and design for large-scale, high-availability, distributed systems.
* Minimum 5 years experience with and an expert understanding of Internet and its major protocols (e.g. HTTP, TCP, IP).
Desired Qualifications
* Strong experience with all aspects of 24x7 systems design – complexity, robustness, fault-tolerance, security, performance, operational considerations, rollout, reporting, supportability, etc.
* Strong experience with building v1.0 systems effectively for long-term success.
* Ability to read and understand large software code bases (C/C++) with the ability to contribute effectively when needed.
* Ability to gain a deep technical understanding of Akamai’s systems and product capabilities over time.
* Ability to learn and understand new areas of networking related technology quickly.
* Ability to make mature and well-informed opinions on technical trade-offs.
* Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
