About the Job
Akamai Systems Communications group is looking for a talented Software Architect to join our Distributed Reporting team. The candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation and broad future direction of a highly available overlay network and its corresponding APIs and infrastructure.
About the Team
Systems Communications is a team of engineers who develop and support systems that support Akamai's global network. These systems operate behind the scenes to provide the fault-tolerant and highly-scalable core of Akamai's configuration and health monitoring systems.
Responsibilities:
* Identify bottlenecks and scaling limits within the current solution.
* Identify relevant stakeholders and engineering teams.
* Design, advocate for and help implement solutions that evolve the system in productive, scalable and secure ways.
* Design, advocate for and help implement relevant APIs, libraries and support tools.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience.
* Minimum of 5 years experience with building scalable servers or distributed systems.
* Minimum of 5 years experience with computer networking.
* Minimum of 5 years experience on Linux/ Unix platforms.
* Minimum of 5 years experience with programming in C or C++.
Desired Qualifications
* Masters or PhD in Computer Science or related field with a focus on networking, system architecture or network security.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Experience collecting, evaluating and prioritizing requirements from engineering teams.
* Experience designing public-facing APIs.
* Familiarity with analyzing the utilization and performance of networking links.
* Familiarity with network routing algorithms.
* Familiarity with multicast networks.
