About the Job
Akamai's is expanding our investment in OpenSSL. Akamai is a leader in security and this software is key to our business and to the Internet. Our security engineering team is hiring talented engineers with strong applied security backgrounds and expertise developing secure network systems to continue our leadership in providing a world class distributed network platform. This team is responsible the integration of OpenSSL with the Akamai codebase and custom implementations of crypto solutions. This team also provides technical leadership and guidance on the application of TLS, OpenSSL and applied security for protecting communications and our platform.
The ideal candidate is highly motivated to design and develop innovative solutions using C/C++ and Python. The candidate should take pride in writing maintainable and highly reliable code. He or she should also be able to understand the big picture and be able to solve complicated problems and communicate them effectively. The candidate will work closely with other engineers at the company and should be able to conduct design and code reviews.
About the Team
The security engineering team is part of Akamai’s Platform Engineering group. Our software and systems encompass many areas of network security including authentication, authorization, firewall, data security, and network access. You will be an integral part of our aggressive growth strategy for creating highly inventive technology solutions for our customers, driving more traffic on the Internet in a secure and efficient way. Platform Engineering is a team of engineers who develop distributed systems that support Akamai's global network. In general, these systems operate behind the scenes to provide the secure, fault-tolerant and highly scalable core of Akamai's platform.
Responsibilities:
* Provide expertise in the OpenSSL code base
* Lead and inspire a diverse team of engineers with varied background and skills
* Build the team, foster team culture, facilitate personal and career growth for team members.
* Design and implement security and performance enhancements
* Maintain custom integrations with OpenSSL and Akamai’s code base
* Create new features from scratch, enhance existing features and optimize existing functionality, from conception and design through testing and deployment.
* Work on projects that make our network more stable, faster, and secure.
* Work to understand, explain and improve complicated code bases.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
* Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience.
* 5+ years of experience with Python, Perl, C or C++, on Linux or a Unix based OS.
* 5+ years of experience with applied network security and technologies such as GPG, SSL, SSH, PKI
* 5+ years of experience working with Internet protocols including TCP/IP, HTTPS, DNS.
* 5+ years of experience with building scalable servers or distributed systems.
* 2+ years of experience in technical leadership
Desired Qualifications
* Masters in Computer Science or related field with a focus on networking, distributed systems, system architecture, or security
* Proven track record of delivering large amounts of high quality, complex code.
* Highly responsible, self-disciplined, self-managed, self-motivated, able to work with little or no supervision.
* Extensive experience working on multiple projects at a time in a fast paced, results oriented environment.
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
