About the Job
The Network Operations Engineer co-op will work in Akamai’s Network Operations Command Center (NOCC) to monitor, manage and maintain a network of over 120,000 deployed devices. As a valued member of the team, he/she will diagnose issues identified by server monitoring tools and determine actions required to resolve these issues.
About the Team
The Akamai NOCC enables proactive monitoring and troubleshooting of all servers in the global Akamai network. In addition, our NOCC has the industry's best view of the real-time condition of the Internet. The NOCC's proactive stance and unique view ensures a seamless response to network conditions – enabling Akamai to deliver rich media content and applications, regardless of network traffic volume. The NOCC is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by expert network operations personnel.
Responsibilities:
- Work with various third parties (Engineers, System Architects, Infrastructure Vendors, Customers, and Developers) to achieve resolution on service-affecting issues.
- Clearly and effectively document information in the Trouble Ticket system for communication to coworkers, other departments, and service providers.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
- 6+ months experience with Linux or UNIX operating systems as well as networking and Internet fundamentals.
- 6+ months experience in system administration, network operations, or other related field.
Desired Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
