About the Job

As a key member of the Akamai Revenue Accounting team, the Revenue Accountant reports to Revenue Accounting Management and will work within the revenue accounting group to accurately close monthly revenue. The Revenue Accountant I will be responsible for all revenue close processes and will be an active participant in monthly management reporting requests. The Revenue Accountant I will be expected to gain an in-depth knowledge of the company’s revenue policies and accurately apply them to the continuously evolving Akamai business environment. This position will also include being involved in ad hoc projects that span across functions to improve existing processes and policies.

About the Team

The Revenue Accounting Team is responsible for reporting revenue results on a monthly and quarterly basis. The team ensures accuracy through the corporate control environment as well as by completing quarterly financial audits. By collaborating with other Akamai Organizations including Global Sales and Services, the revenue team gains an in depth knowledge of the Akamai Business and it customers.

Responsibilities:

* Review customer contracts for revenue recognition issues and ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP and FASB
* Communicate with various internal groups to gather relevant information for decision making (Billing, Sales, Professional Services, FP&A)
* Participate in month-end and year-end closes including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations, including deferral and accrual accounts
* Perform analysis of monthly customer revenue fluctuations to confirm accuracy and completeness
* Gather data and prepare related schedules for the Company’s quarterly reviews, annual audits, and SEC filings
* Update and strengthen internal controls and procedures
* Assist the team in automating manual processes
* Perform special projects or duties as required within the finance department

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

*Minimum of Bachelors degree in Finance or Accounting
*Minimum of 1.5 years experience working with GAAP and SEC guidelines for revenue recognition (SAB 104, and EITF 08-1)
*Minimum of 2 years experience working with MS Excel

Desired Qualifications

* Ability to work independently, be a self-starter and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline oriented environment
* Detail oriented
* 2 years of Public Accounting experience or equivalent
* Proficient in the use of Excel functions including but not limited to: VLOOKUP, SUMIF, Pivot Tables, & IF statements.
* Oracle, Salesforce, &/or Siebel experience a plus
* Must be a real “team player” with a “can-do” attitude and a solutions oriented personality
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills required
* CPA a plus
