About the Job
The Major Account Executive will be calling primarily on existing customers and new prospects . The Major Account Executive (MAE) is responsible for the strategic objective of maximizing revenue generation within large and small government agencies , Given the importance of penetrating new accounts, the individual will be focused on cold calling, prospect qualification, strategic sales process planning, exploring and closing all revenue opportunities.
About the Team
The person filling this position would be a member within Akamai's Public Sector vertical team which focuses on the State and Local government and University / Educational market located in the Northeast US.

- Work with designated Regional Sales Manager , Marketing and Channels on developing a territory planning and account penetration.
- Identify and drive incremental business opportunities within their assigned territory.
- Ownership of business relationships with set of existing customers (as assigned )
- Foster long term customer relationships by understanding customer needs and being a strong advocate with Akamai solutions
- Preparation of semi-annual business reviews, monthly progress reports , weekly forecast leveraging SalesForce and executive summaries as needed .
- Maintain strong sales pipeline and forecast to increase visibility of short and long term opportunities.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
* Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
* 5+ years in system / solution sales to the Government (Civilian Agencies, State & Local , Educational Markets).
Desired Qualifications
* Clearance level : Not required but a plus
- Strong technical background ( EE degree a plus)
- Consistently exceeding quota of greater than $2 Million.
- Proven Track Record in over-achieving quarterly and annual quota.
- Must have strong knowledge of Internet / Cyber /Networking concepts and demonstrate the ability to discuss them with intelligence and conviction.
* Experience in successfully executing complex sales cycles with CXOs.
* Experience in selling within a team and in a individual contributor environment ( Team Player)
* Must have high ethics, integrity, and humility and have a desire to build a world-class sales and support organization.
* Ideal candidates will bring with them a range of industry-related contacts.
* Strong background in Web based applications and security ( a plus).
* Familiar with managed services business model.
* Demonstrated leadership of cross-functional teams tasked with full lifecycle support.
* Familiar with product roadmap planning to incorporate customer requirements into Akamai service offerings.
* Formal sales training: Solution-Selling and/or Value Selling training preferred.
