About the Job

You will work closely with the other members of the Custom Government Engineering and Operations groups to improve our existing data collection components of our managed CDN products. You will be responsible for delivering the next generation of data handling capabilities and crafting how other products build upon it. This person will also be responsible for deeply understanding the roles of our existing Internet data collection and analysis products, and how to improve their function, accuracy, performance, and security.

About the Team

The Custom Government Engineering team works with breadth and depth across Akamai’s technology stack to deliver custom solutions. The team has a strong relationship with our Operations team; working in a collaborative fashion, we strive to build and operate world-class Application Delivery Networks for our customers.

Responsibilities:
- Analyze and operationalize the Akamai Distributed Data Collection technologies in the Custom Government Networks Managed CDN environment.
- Understand the various data collection mechanisms of the platform at breadth.
- Develop and adapt tools to dig into and build reports from the data.
- Assist in the innovation and development of new product offerings based upon existing capabilities.
- Follow software engineering and data handling best practices to maintain a secure environment.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, relevant engineering field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in the field of software or systems engineering.
- 5+ years of experience with one or more of the following languages on a Linux/UNIX platform: C, C++, Perl, Python, or Ruby.
- US Citizenship.

Desired Qualifications
- Prior software development experience in a distributed computing environment.
- Strong Unix/Linux administration and shell-scripting knowledge.
- Flexibility to adapt and operationalize software from various sources.
- An understanding of how to deliver Operations-friendly services.
- Knowledge of Relational Databases, such as Postgresql.
- Knowledge of “Big Data” concepts and technologies such as Hadoop, HBase, Cassandra, etc.
- A strong desire to develop and curate a strong set of tools.
- Active, in-scope SSBI clearance.
