This job is about using discipline and rigor to increase the amount we typically learn from each accident. It offers (but does not require) a role in the active fire-fighting, fixing the Internet at 3am. About the Team
Our general take on life might be summarized as:
“You mean that I can get paid to spend time on things like:
- Providing expert advice & review for product teams and incident responders, working together, hands-on, to make the Web safer;
- Studying, measuring, and improving the sociotechnical control systems that protect millions of HTTP requests every second of every day;
- Packaging and polishing cutting-edge research (e.g., from UIC, MIT, Imperial, EPFL and others) for easy consumption by interested-but-busy audiences across the company (and web); or
- Writing a tabletop role-playing game to teach incident responders how to think adversarially.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities
- Engineer an incident management process that fits the technical, social, historical, and budgetary constraints of Akamai.
- Coordinate actors across the company in responding to accidents of a broad range of severities.
- Train and lead others in following that process.
- Bring reliability, rigor, and discipline to an essentially chaotic system.
- Extend this approach to other unplanned, accident-like work in the Infosec group.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
- 5 years experience with incident management or other technical “fire-fighting.”
- 5 years experience with lab management or other technical “cat-herding.”
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience constructing and refining processes for mass collaboration
- Mathematical inclination
- Programming or database experience
- Exceptional fluency in written communication
