About the Job
We are looking for a Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer Intern to join the dynamic BI Engineering team at Akamai. In this role, you would work with every aspect of data, that is, capturing, cleaning, presenting, analyzing etc. as well as with every type of data: big data, small data, structured data, unstructured data, machine-generated data, log data, transaction data, reporting data etc. And you would use everything from the toolset consisting of PL-SQL, R, Informatica, Oracle, OBIEE, HighCharts, Perl, shell scripts, Java, JavaScript etc. to indulge in this data.

About the Team
Business Intelligence Engineering team at Akamai consists of data geeks. We take pride in solving data problems for all employees in the company. When an Akamai employee gets entangled in terabytes of data, our data surgeons carefully remove all complications from the data and administer the information to the employee in kilobyte to megabyte size doses, preferably in visually appealing charts and graphs and sometimes via the bitter pills of histograms and box plots. You get the idea!

Responsibilities:

If you are thinking what exactly you would be doing, your prayers have been answered. You would:
- Write code in packaged or open source tools to fetch, clean and process data.
- Prototype data visualizations using commercial or open source technologies.
- Drive complex, cross-functional data projects to successful completion.
- Design data models to structure the data in the desired format.
- Support the application, fulfill ad-hoc report requests, & deploy code (even better, you would write code to automate code deployment!).
- Optimize application processes, to improve performance.
- Enhance and automate testing and QA process.
- Work on anything else that needs to be fixed or enhanced.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Desired Qualifications
- Keen interest in working with raw data and data visualizations.
- Familiarity with SQL.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and modeling skills.
- Knowledge of Linux/UNIX scripting.
