Overview:Akamai Platform Mapping Engineering team is seeking interns to work with the team developing and configuring our next generation mapping system. The day-to-day work of the team encompasses the full engineering cycle: problem formulation, data collection, analysis, algorithm design, code specification, implementation, and evaluation for performance and correctness. The Internet is a complex and noisy environment, and there are no simple answers to the problems the team tackles. This is precisely what makes the job fun and rewarding to anyone seeking a challenge.
Example projects:
* Building data visualization tools to analyze the deployed network
* Writing scripts that will be used to interact with and control Akamai name servers using the {OPEN} Akamai Intelligent Platform API's
* Developing tools to quickly collect and analyze large quantities of data from our deployed servers
* Adding to our monitoring, alerting and release process infrastructure
* Perform analysis and experiments using data from the deployed network to help drive future mapping improvements
Responsibilities:
Analyze, design and implement system software and tools that help bring new functionality, better quality, increased reliability, and enhanced scalability to Akamai's mapping system
Qualifications:
* Currently pursuing a Bachelors in Computer Science or related field and returning to the program after completion of the internship
* Experience with programming (Perl, Python, C/C++, for example)
* Knowledge of Perl and/or Python
* Strong analytical skills, working with data, some statistics
* Familiarity with Linux or UNIX operating systems
* Strong design skills and an ability to tackle abstract, ill-defined problems
* Ability to work in a small-team environment
* A strong work ethic and positive attitude
* Inquisitive attitude and ability to learn quickly
