About the Job
As a Senior System Software Engineer for Cloud Optimization, you will work in an Agile/Scrum environment to develop Akamai technology to accelerate the deployment and configuration of Enterprise environments. You will utilize your software architecture and development skills, together with your passion for technology to create exciting and unique products within a team of exceptional engineers, developing new designs and software under Linux, in C/C++.

We're looking for top-notch technical staff to create core technology to deliver a secure, accelerated experience to enterprise customers. Our development environment is fast paced and ambitious. This software will run on a large network of geographically distributed servers and embedded devices, as well as in data centers and branch offices, presenting unique challenges and requiring creative designs. Surrounded by Akamai's innovation driven culture, you'll apply your in-depth knowledge of networking and security to create unique and powerful solutions to today's application acceleration challenges.
Responsibilities:
* Collaborate on software solutions to complex and interwoven sets of problems that challenge the group.
* Develop high performance software to accelerate enterprise-class applications as well as software to efficiently manage our enterprise platform.
* Design and develop software that enriches the product feature set while maintaining reliability, scalability and fault-tolerance.
* Drive best practices for software development in conjunction with other technical thought leaders.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in C/C++ server development with Linux/Unix, implementing multi-threaded client/server applications that communicate via TCP/IP.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience with common Internet protocols (IP, TCP, SSL/TLS, HTTP, DNS).
Desired Qualifications
* Understanding of common Internet protocols (IP, TCP, SSL/TLS, HTTP, DNS).
* Experience with TCP/IP networking, multithreading and server implementation.
* Knowledge of configuration and reporting infrastructure technologies (Control Path) for a distributed system.
* Knowledge of scalable and efficient data structures and data flows.
* Proven ability to make solid, independent technical decisions for high performance, low resource server software.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Self motivated with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
* Desire to work in a fast-paced, results orientated team.
* Experience with a scripting language such as Perl.
* Passion to understand, learn, dissect and improve new technologies.
* Experience developing products in an Agile/Scrum environment.
