About the Job
We are looking for a talented Senior Product Architect to coordinate design efforts on a variety of projects in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment. As part of the Architectural Integration team, you will help teams design, establish, and build systems that fit into the Akamai ecosystem. You will be responsible for architecting innovative solutions to the infrastructure of one of the largest distributed systems in the world. The successful candidate will create and/or evaluate prototypes, work closely with software and operation managers, software and performance engineers, design well-rounded new products, and improve the existing distributed infrastructure.

About the Team
The Architectural Integration team, part of System Communications (SysComm), is responsible for supporting the integration of new products and initiatives into the Akamai infrastructure. Akamai’s SysComm is a talented cross-functional group of engineers that builds and run the fault-tolerant and highly scalable infrastructure that supports Akamai's global network. This distributed infrastructure includes configuration management systems, networks security systems, and monitoring systems for all Akamai's machines running across the world.
Responsibilities:
* Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders: engineering, operations, information security, and quality assurance
* Collaborate with peer organizations to increase the speed, reliability, and agility of software development and deployment.
* Take on cross organization project ownership/management
* Create prototypes and author detailed specifications
* Successfully communicate conceptual ideas and design rationale
* Integrate internal and external product designs into a cohesive technical vision
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
* 5+ years of experience working in large design efforts and coordinating with project teams
* 5+ years experience with distributed systems and databases
* 5+ years experience with highly scalable systems
* 2+ years communicating design rationale and building consensus
Desired Qualifications
* Master or PhD degree in Computer Science or related field
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively
* Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment
* Experience with highly scalable systems
* Familiarity with common Internet protocols (IP, TCP, UDP, DNS, HTTP, etc.)
* Experience with network systems in an enterprise environment
* Experience with distributed systems and databases
