About the Job
Akamai’s fastest growing new business, Akamai Cloud Security offers market leading solutions in DDoS mitigation and Web Application Firewall. We are seeking a security thought leader to drive our strategic directionas as we expand this business into other adjacent markets. Akamai’s vast deployment of Internet-based edge servers enables unparalleled security service capacity and availability. More recently Akamai has developed a massive Big Data infrastructure for security research, forensics, intelligence and other non-real time analysis purposes. This enables Akamai to develop solutions that leverage its global scale and visibility into both web application attacks as well as normal web traffic.
This individual will lead and drive strategy process for the Cloud Security Business Unit. The ideal candidate will be a technologist with excellent business acumen who has a track record of successfully developing multi-year security strategy and technology roadmaps, has a broad network of relationships in the security ecosystem, and is not afraid to challenge the rest of the Security management team. This individual will research, investigate, assess, and recommend new technologies and new cloud security services. They will lead market research, including engaging customers, partners and industry analysts, and venture capitalists and Investment bankers in active field research for potential cloud security products that would complement the current Akamai Cloud Security portfolio and be a good fit to run on the Akamai Intelligent Platform. This will include identifying potential acquisitions, strategic investments, and partnerships.
The ideal candidate will also possess practitioner level knowledge in internet, web and cloud technologies and should be a web application security expert. We are seeking an individual who is steeped in current technology but is also an “out of the box thinker”. The successful candidate will have a vision of how cloud technologies are transforming enterprise architectures and how the Akamai cloud security business can help enterprises to successfully adapt and transform. This person will work closely with the Cloud Security leadership team, product management, engineering, product architecture, and corporate development teams.
This position will be based in Akamai’s HQ office in Cambridge, MA. It will involve travel to tradeshows, to meet with customers and partners as well as travel to Akamai’s offices in Israel and the San Francisco bay area, in addition to roadshows with the venture and incubator community.
About the Team
The Akamai Cloud Security team is a group of deeply experienced internet security professionals dedicated to driving the innovation of security products at Akamai and cloud based security across the industry. Team members have backgrounds from across the industry. Our products are used today by the world's top businesses to protect and secure their web sites and web applications.
The products team works closely with engineering centers of excellence in Santa Clara California, Hertzilya Israel, Bangalore India, Ft. Lauderdale Florida and Cambridge Massachusetts. The team works collaboratively with customers, engineering and professional services teams to gain a deep understanding of customer pain points and to define highly effective solutions that can be delivered effectively
Responsibilities:
* Lead and drive the security strategy process for the Cloud Security Business Unit. This will include coordinating strategy core team sessions, developing strategic plans, proposals and options and working across the broader organization to gather input and feedback.
* Provide education and insight across the organization on security market developments, trends, new market entrants and potential market disruptions.
* Identifying and quantifying adjacent market opportunities for Akamai Cloud Securtiy services and helping to create the framework for the strategic decisions to be made, including business plans, go to market plans, development proposals, partnership proposals and acquisition recommendations.
* Define and drive the business plans and positioning of new products and services that Akamai may choose to launch in the future. This will include extending product roadmaps for both new and existing Cloud Security services, with a specific emphasis on adjacent growth opportunities that can leverage Akamai’s unique service platform.
* Interact with customers and prospects, industry analysts and partners to validate market needs and fully understand customer and partner requirements for any and all new business and service concepts.
* Partner with Corporate Development to create business models for strategic acquisitions, develop roadshow material for venture capital sessions, and provide support in different accelerator and incubator programs around the security area.
* Represent Akamai at conferences and other events.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Computer Science or an engineering discipline
* Minimum of 7 years of overall experience
* Minimum of 5 years of experience with product strategy, product management, product marketing, product development or equivalent
* Minimum of 5 years of experience with internet related technologies, or equivalent
* Minimum of 4 years of experience with internet and web application security or equivalent
Desired Qualifications
* MBA preferred
* Prior Product Strategy/Management experience in the web application security, identity management, web fraud and/or related products
* Passionate and knowledgeable about the current security industry and trends with experience working in internet, web security, identity management and web fraud
