About the Job
In the Emerging Mobile Products Business Unit, an Akamai Senior Architect Engineer designs new customer-oriented products and features and is responsible for leading the end-to-end design of the product. The position requires a high degree of creativity and the ability to work “outside the box”.
This is not only a high level architecture only position. A significant portion of a candidate’s success will be measured by her/his ability to rapidly prototype her/his/others concepts and design, and to do so in a fashion such that these prototype efforts can be efficiently productized.
Excellent communication skills will be necessary in order to clearly communicate expectations with respect to prototyping and product design and progress against goals. Similarly, the successful candidate will be communicating with other groups across Akamai which will be supplying support for architectural integration as well modification of existing functionality.
About The Team
The team is focused on developing new, innovative products that leverage Akamai’s unique visibility into Internet traffic and its highly distributed cloud platform. You will be working on developing new and groundbreaking mobile and Big Data products with global impact.
Responsibilities:
* Architect and design robust and valuable product solutions in the mobile space concentrating on end-to-end system level design for next-generation mobile solutions
* Collaborate with other teams such as Product Management, Information Security, Web Experience, Networks and Operations to create innovative software solutions to complex and interwoven sets of problems.
* Lead design discussions and develop software that enriches the product feature set while maintaining robustness, scalability and fault-tolerance.
* Leverage a commanding knowledge of customer business challenges to ensure products are designed to meet their needs.
* Provide technical leadership across engineering to ensure product development is smooth, evolving the design as needed.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
* Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field
* 12+ years of experience in software development.
* 7+ years of prior demonstrable experience at the systems level architect level ideally with experience in mobile, cellular, networking, big data, highly distributed communication systems.
* 7+ years’ experience in systems-level programming in C or C++ or Python and RESTful API interfaces.
* 5+ years of experience in software development for mobile networks and applications server side.
Desired Qualifications
* Strong experience developing multiple high scale products for web based/ Mobile application preferred.
* Strong experience developing multiple high scale products for web based/ Mobile application preferred.
* Coder/hacker capable of rapidly pumping out prototypes . Experience in Databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL or NoSQL databases is a plus.
* Exceptional written and verbal technical and interpersonal communications skills with demonstrable depth of experience in communicating with internal groups such including Product Management, Services, and Operations.
* Understands the difference between a prototype and a product and needs to be able to rapidly transition to productization when the time is right.
