About the Job
In the Emerging Mobile Products Business Unit, an Akamai Senior Systems Software Engineer designs new customer-oriented products and features and is responsible for leading the end-to-end design of the product. The position requires a high degree of creativity and the ability to work “outside the box”.
A successful candidate will be communicating with other groups across Akamai which will be supplying support for architectural integration as well modification of existing functionality.
About The Team
The team is focused on developing new, innovative products that leverage Akamai’s unique visibility into Internet traffic and its highly distributed cloud platform. You will be working on developing new and groundbreaking mobile and Big Data products with global impact.
Responsibilities:
* Strong knowledge of one or more of Databases like PostgresSQL/Oracle/MySQL/Cassandra. Familiarity with SQL is a must-have.
* Ability to write/optimize stored procedures, triggers and SQL queries.
* Design, test, implement, maintain features and performance tuning for next gen database technologies.
* Strong coding skills and worked on applications interacting with Databases like DB connection, manipulating records/schemas or Query tables in an optimized manner.
* Have worked on various DB optimizing techniques including trade-off analysis, system performance and availability, fault-tolerance and scalability requirements.
* Strong knowledge of DB operations, Database Replication and Scaling techniques.
* Ability to evaluate, design and implement scalable architecture and support large Database implementations.
* Knowledge of C/C++. Additional scripting or programming experience with Python or Perl is a plus.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
* Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field
* 5+ years of experience in software development* 3+ years with PostgresSQL/Oracle/MySQL/Cassandra* 3+ years writing/optimizing stored procedures, triggers and SQL queries* 2+ years of prior demonstrable experience at the systems level engineering ideally with experience in mobile, cellular, networking, big data, highly distributed communication systems
Desired Qualifications
* Understandshigh scaleable databases
* Coder/hacker capable of rapidly pumping out prototypes
* Exceptional written and verbal technical and interpersonal communications skills with demonstrable depth of experience in communicating with internal groups such including Product Management, Services, and Operations.
* Understands the difference between a prototype and a product and needs to be able to rapidly transition to productization when the time is right.
