We are looking for a Senior System Software Engineer in the Cloud Networking business unit to develop application acceleration software. You will drive design and development of systems focused on network, transport, security, and application acceleration. Our globally distributed platform is built for 24x7, real-time, fault tolerant operation, presenting unique challenges and requiring creative yet sound development and design decisions. Our technology is changing the rules of the game and challenging traditional thinking in a rapidly growing and very exciting market.
About the Team
You will be part of a highly skilled team of engineers responsible for the design and development of Akamai's IP Application Acceleration product line. This team of engineers has repeatedly developed unique solutions to complex problems, which routinely surpass fundamental limitations of networking. Our technology is changing the rules of the game and challenging traditional thinking in a rapidly growing and very exciting market.
Responsibilities:
You will have the opportunity to work on a platform that helps our customers deliver IP applications faster and more reliably anywhere in the world. On the team you will have the opportunity to help these areas move “Faster Forward”:
* Enterprise SaaS acceleration
* Peer to peer video delivery
* DDoS mitigation and protection
* System optimization
* Performance data analysis
* Provide technical expertise creating software solutions to complex and interwoven sets of problems that challenge the group.
* Design and develop high performance software to accelerate enterprise applications, while maintaining robustness, scalability and fault-tolerance of the platform.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or similar engineering field.
* Minimum of 5 years of C/C++ development experience on Linux/Unix platforms or embedded systems.
* Minimum of 3 years of experience with multithreading and high-performance server development.
* Minimum of 3 years of experience with design and development for mission critical, high-availability systems.
* Minimum of 2 years of experience with TCP/IP networking and client/server development and socket programming
Desired Qualifications
* Masters degree in Computer Science or similar engineering field
* Experience with Internet security, firewalls, and/or Linux iptables
* Strong software development and design skills in a Linux/Unix environment
* Experience with common Internet protocols (IP, IPv6, TCP, SSL/TLS, HTTP, DNS).
* Experience in the Application Acceleration and/or WAN Optimization space.
* Ability to reason about complex systems.
* Self motivated with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude
* Desire to work in a fast-paced, results orientated team.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
