As a Senior Data Science Analyst, Akamai is a great place to apply your unique mix of communication, statistical, and coding skills to interesting and unique data sets. You will be responsible for selecting algorithms best suited to modeling data sets in a wide variety of domains and developing and testing those models in such a way that they can be implemented in a production environment if required. Data sets will require skills with time series analyses, anomaly detection, categorization, and forecasting. You will get to bring your knowledge of many potential algorithms to bear, involving both supervised and unsupervised learning.
About the Team
The Sales, Finance and Business Operations teams manage operational aspects of Akamai's product and go to market organizations. These include such activities as revenue and productivity planning, reporting and analyzing key performance metrics, to developing processes within the organization to drive efficiency gains. The Data Analytics team is responsible for business intelligence and advanced analytics supporting sales and marketing initiatives.
Responsibilities:
* Help inform business decisions in areas such as customer segmentation, product development, forecasting of customer behavior, web security profiling, and customer experience.
* Build statistical models to analyze and derive practical insight from data.
* Communicate insights to internal clients.
* Take initiative to keep up with developments in the field of data science, and to independently learn a great deal on the job.
* Help business leaders in Sales, Marketing, Product, and Operations groups formulate critical questions that may be answered through statistical analysis.
* Work with team to develop new business metrics if required and build measurement systems if needed.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
* Education: Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Hard Science, Social Science or related field.
* 5+ years of experience in data mining with various tools.
* 5+ years of experience building and applying statistical models.
* 5+ years of experience designing and executing SQL/Cypher queries.
* 2+ years of experience in linear programming and optimization.
* 2+ years of experience extracting and parsing unstructured data (e.g., JSON).
Desired Qualifications
* Proficient in R, Python, or equivalent.
* Familiarity with Hadoop, Map/Reduce, Hive or equivalent software.
* Demonstrated problem solving skills.
* Has the initiative to chase down and evaluate new data sources and analytical solutions relevant to solving business problems.
* Demonstrated practical experience with machine learning algorithms.
* Experience communicating insights from complex data to non-technical audiences.
* Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
