Overview:We are looking for an innovation-driven and motivated principal systems architect to coordinate design efforts on the team building the next generation of Akamai's secure server and secret management platform. As part of this, you would be heavily engaged in evolving the infrastructure for one of the largest distributed systems in the world. The successful candidate will create and/or evaluate prototypes, improve the existing distributed infrastructure, and work closely with software engineers, performance engineers, hardware engineers, and Engineering and Operations management. You will be challenged to take state-of-the-art technologies and research ideas and turn them into highly scalable, secure, and reliable systems that perform in the real world.

Responsibilities:

- Architect and design the next generation of Akamai's server security platform.
- Investigate security vulnerabilities and collaborate to define solutions and resolve vulnerabilities.
- Collaborate with engineering teams across the company to define a highly-scalable next-generation architecture for Akamai's server security and secret management platforms.
- Coordinate with hardware engineers to evolve the hardware capabilities of Akamai's server deployments for enhanced chassis-level security.
- Interact with security architects and teams across the company to ensure proper integration of services into Akamai's security platform.
- Work with other security architects, program managers, product management, and customer-facing teams to determine and prioritize requirements.
- Provide technical leadership across engineering to ensure system development is smooth, evolving designs as needed.
- As part of the team, provide technical leadership while creating software solutions to complex and interwoven sets of problems that challenge the group.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, with Masters or Ph.D. Preferred
- 10+ years of industry experience
- 5+ years experience working on security architecture and design, with experience in technologies, processes, and concepts such as symmetric and asymmetric cryptography, TLS, TPMs, remote attestation, Authentication and Authorization.
- 5+ years of experience in software development and architecture.
- Broad breadth of knowledge in the areas of operating systems, security, and Internet systems.
- 5+ years experience in C/C++ development experience with user space client/server development on Linux/Unix.
- 5+ years experience with common Internet protocols (IP, TCP, SSL/TLS, HTTP, DNS)
- 5+ years of experience with design and development for scalable, mission critical, high-availability systems.

Desired Qualifications:

- 5+ years' experience applying system attacks and defenses against both software and hardware
- Broad and deep knowledge of the Akamai technology platform and organization.
- Willingness to travel to other Akamai offices.
- Ability to build consensus across business and technical groups.
- Experience with design and development of scalable, mission critical or high-availability systems.
- Knowledge of scalable and efficient data structures and distributed algorithms.
- Deep understanding and experience with networking technologies from the link layer to the application layer, with particular expertise in security-related Internet protocols such as TLS and IPSec.
- Experience with low-level operating system kernel development, preferably with Linux.
- Experience with a scripting language such as Python or Perl.
- Passion to understand, learn, dissect and improve new technologies.
- Self motivated with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational and communication skills, ability to manage by influence.
